With all the special effects, explosions and high-priced actors, you could assume that movies these days cost Hollywood a pretty penny. So what movies earn the title of highest priced? Here are the top three (factoring inflation, of course):
Spiderman 3 - $258 Million!
In 2007, the highly anticipated Spiderman 3 was released, costing the production studio $258 million. While the movie wasn’t as well received as the first two, the profits were enough to leave many movie-goers craving at least one more.
Cleopatra - $286 Million!
An actor receiving $20 million per movie was unheard of in 1963 , but you couldn’t tell with the budget for Cleopatra. $286 million was the bill that almost sent 20th Century Fox to the poor house, A modest budget of $2 million quickly shot up when the set had to be moved to more costly locations.
War and Peace - $560 Million
It’s only fitting that a war theme would be the most costly movie of all times. War and Peace tops out our list with a budget of $560 million. The irony of all this is that the original 70 mm version is locked away due to a legal dispute while movie lovers are currently stuck with the mediocre 35 mm film.
